Here’s what I’d like you to do.  In your handouts here, circle numbers four, five, and six.  Of those six approaches to change, circle numbers four, five, and six because in a real world you’re going to want to be good at reacting to change and learning how to react to change quickly.  You’re also going to want to be good at anticipating change and creating change.  Those are the six approaches to change that you can take. Now I think thriving on change there’s a foundation.  These are the two sentences, the basis of everything I’m going to be talking about tonight.  Thriving on change, the foundation.  Sentence number one is this, That in changing times, there is a certain set of principles and core values that I never want to change and – and this is a big and here -  that in changing times, the same set of belief and strategies that have gotten you to where you are now, will not get you to where you want to go.  So in changing times, the same set of beliefs and strategies that have gotten you to where you are now will not get you to where you want to go.  You’re successful, congratulations.  You know what used to work.  That’s what we’re talking about here. So when it comes to beliefs and strategies, you need to be extremely flexible when it comes to those.  So that’s the challenge of living a life or running business.  You’ve got to be rock solid on principles and core values and simultaneously flexible on your beliefs about what’s possible out there and your strategies for running your business.  Now in changing times, you need to be smart, flexible, and… I think in our lives and even in our businesses, if we’re going in exactly the same straight line, there’s going to be a cliff there.  Now I don’t know if that cliff is a mile out, 10 miles out, or a hundred miles out.  What happens if you see the cliff 10 miles before you get to it?  How big of a change in direction to you have to make?  A small change, right? See what I mean.  If you make a small change in direction, you’re going to miss it.  What happens if you see the cliff one mile before you get to it?  You’re going to have to make a bigger change, but you can still avoid it.  What happens if you see the cliff 10 feet before you get to it?  You’re gone, because your momentum is going to take you over, I can guarantee it.  You can do a lot better job of avoiding your cliffs with anticipation.
